The goal of Consumer-Directed (CD) services is to help individuals lead lives in accordance to their preferences and personal decision. It also encourages the individual to acquire health and home care services that will allow him to stay at home for as long as possible – thus reducing chances for institutionalization in an intermediate care facility.
Some of the CD benefits for eligible individuals:
Customized Care
The individual’s unique needs are easily and exclusively addressed. The individual (or family members) have a choice about who will work for them as the care provider, the tasks that will be involved in the care plan and the care setting preferred – most likely in the individual’s own home.
Employer Arrangements
The individual who is receiving care will be considered the employer of the attendant(s) hired through the Medicaid Waiver program.
Ease of Access
1st Choice Facilitator Service will assist eligible individuals in acquiring services through the CD waiver programs. We facilitate paperwork and filing requests with the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services.
